The Development Group provides guidance, support and coaching to our younger club members within the 12 to 18 age bracket.
Our rider development centre is based in the Winton Arts and Media College in Ensbury Park, adjacent to the 250m outdoor cycle track at the Bournemouth Cycling Centre.
Throughout the winter, we hold a popular training session every Friday at 5.00pm using the club’s fleet of eight Wattbike indoor cycle trainers. These high tech machines provide precise feedback on all aspects of rider performance.
During the summer months, weather and light conditions permitting, we run track training one a week at 5.00pm on the outdoor track at Bournemouth Cycling Centre. In 2018 this will be on Tuesdays. The aim of the session is to progress riders in all aspects of safe track cycling. Riders will learn how to navigate the track safely whilst riding individually, in pairs and in groups. There are various exercises that the coaches will run through with the group each week. The ultimate aim for riders as they progress in both skill and fitness, is to move up to eventually move up to the senior session that follows. However, it should be noted that progression to the senior group is entirely at the discretion of the coaches, as safety must be considered at all times.
The club has six British Cycling qualified coaches with a vast first hand experience of track, road racing, time trial and mountain biking.
The club also has 6 track bikes available for use at no cost to youth members to help them get started if they do not have their own track bike.
Our youth riders are encouraged and supported to develop their ability to the highest level and most importantly to enjoy their cycling.
